Recognise the letter, say its name and its sound.
Match capital letter to lower case letter.

Pattern writing: Letters that use clockwise and anti clockwise movements.

We have been working on listening to sounds that make up words.
Some of the skills we have been developing are:
All these skills are taught progressively we start with providing a lot of support and eventually get the children to respond independently.
None of these skills include looking at letters or words. We just look at pictures or listen to words spoken
Blending
Teacher segments word for child and child puts it together.
Eg. What word am I saying? /b/ /a/ /g/
Answer: bag
Segmenting:
What are the sounds you can hear in the word fish?
Answer: /f/ /i/ /sh/

Recognising the first sound in a word.
Answer: The first /beginning sound in the word cat is c ( sound- not letter name )
Recognising the last sound in the word.
Answer: The last sound in the word cat is "t" (sound not letter name)
Recognising the middle sound in the word cat
Answer: The middle sound is "a"
